Nintendo Switch Online July Additions Include a Wario Classic

Nintendo Switch Online has added Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and several other classic titles to its retro game library as part of its July update.

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, originally released for Game Boy in 1994, headlines the new additions available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Despite being technically labeled a Super Mario Land sequel, the game notably features minimal appearances from Nintendo’s mascot Mario. Instead, the title establishes Wario—Mario’s mischievous rival—as a compelling protagonist in his own right, marking a significant milestone in the character’s evolution as a video game star.

The gameplay centers on Wario as a treasure-seeking protagonist who pursues gold and riches throughout side-scrolling platformer levels. The game demonstrates the origins of many gameplay mechanics that would define the broader Wario Land series in subsequent installments, appealing particularly to fans of later entries in the franchise.

The Game Boy classic is now playable on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 for subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Beyond Wario Land, the July update brings three additional Game Boy classics to the service. Players in Japan have received an even broader selection, gaining access to two extra Game Boy Advance titles alongside the standard additions.

The expansion continues Nintendo’s efforts to preserve and provide access to its extensive catalog of classic games, making historic titles available to modern audiences through subscription access.
