Microsoft is reportedly considering making more of its first-party games exclusive to Xbox
Microsoft is reportedly considering making more of its first-party games exclusive to Xbox and PC, according to a new Bloomberg report. Under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, the company aims to provide consumers with reasons to purchase Xbox consoles rather than competitor platforms.
The strategy has already begun with titles like Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from inXile, which are confirmed as exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC, notably absent from PlayStation 5. However, Microsoft intends to maintain multiplatform releases for major multiplayer titles, which will continue to launch across all major platforms including PlayStation 5.
This shift represents a departure from Microsoft’s recent strategy of maximizing platform availability for its games. The move comes amid pressure to differentiate Xbox in a competitive console market. While Microsoft has not disclosed which additional titles will become exclusives, the strategy indicates a renewed emphasis on using first-party game exclusivity as a key differentiator for Xbox hardware.
