Call Of Duty: Black Ops 1 And 2 Ports Are Out Now On PS5, But DLC Costs Extra

Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Black Ops 2 (2012) ports have launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, developed by Iron Galaxy in partnership with Activision. The release came as a surprise shadow drop.

The base games are priced at $39.99 each, though PlayStation Plus subscribers receive a 50% discount bringing the cost to $19.99 per game through August 6, 2026. Notably, the two games are sold separately with no bundle option available. To access the complete experience, including all post-launch DLC, players must purchase separate season passes for each title at $29.99 apiece, or $9.99 for PS Plus members during the promotional period. This means the full package—both games plus both season passes—costs $140 without a subscription discount.

These are straightforward ports rather than remasters or remakes, preserving the original 2010 and 2012 experiences without substantial updates. The ports notably lack modern features found in contemporary games: they do not support 120 FPS, include no field-of-view sliders, and feature no graphical enhancements over their original versions. Multiplayer functionality is limited to each console’s ecosystem, with no cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions.

The PlayStation exclusivity extends beyond current-generation support. Nintendo Switch ports are not planned, and there are no new updates for Xbox or PC platforms, meaning these games remain exclusive to PlayStation.

The ports have generated significant interest within the gaming community, sparking discussion around pricing strategies for aging titles and the value proposition of ports versus remasters. The release marks a notable moment in game preservation, allowing new audiences on modern PlayStation hardware to experience foundational entries in the Call of Duty franchise.
