Counter-Strike 2 Update Brings Bomb Blast Radius Changes, New Skins, and More Maps
Counter-Strike 2’s latest update marks the formal beginning of Season 5 of Premier, the game’s most competitive ranked mode, while introducing substantial changes to core mechanics and adding Cache to the competitive map pool.
The update overhauls bomb damage calculation, moving away from the previous system that instantly dealt damage to all players within a fixed radius regardless of map geometry. The new model introduces a shockwave-based damage propagation system where blast effects spread rapidly—but not instantaneously—from the bomb plant through available paths on the map, respecting walls, corners, and other physical structures.
This fundamental change significantly impacts competitive strategy and player positioning around bomb sites. By making damage calculation account for map geometry, the update adds tactical depth to site control and plant placement decisions, forcing teams to reconsider optimal bomb positioning and defense strategies.
The update also includes new cosmetic skins and formally integrates Cache into the Premier competitive map rotation, providing additional variety to high-level play.
