Godzilla Minus Zero trailer reveals a shocking twist

Toho and distributor GKIDS have released a new trailer and details for Godzilla Minus Zero, the upcoming sequel to 2023’s Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. Director Takashi Yamazaki’s follow-up continues the story of survivors from the first film, particularly the Shikishima family, as they face another kaiju threat in post-World War II Tokyo.

The new trailer reveals a significant escalation in the narrative’s stakes. As Godzilla returns to threaten Japan once more, disaster-response officials are considering increasingly extreme countermeasures, including the deployment of thermonuclear weapons to drive the creature away from populated areas. The trailer includes dialogue reflecting the moral weight of such decisions, with one character describing nuclear weapons as “another moral boundary mankind should not cross.”

The film appears to build on the first installment’s success by exploring the ethical dilemmas of disaster response and survival in the face of an existential threat, while maintaining the personal story arc of its central family.
