Laid-Off MindsEye Developers Plan Protest Outside Company Office Over ‘All-Expenses-Paid Playtest Day’

Developers laid off from Build a Rocket Boy’s MindsEye project are planning a protest outside the studio’s Edinburgh, Scotland office on Saturday, July 11. The IWGB Game Workers Union, the same organization representing recently fired GTA 6 developers, is organizing the demonstration.

The protest centers on the studio’s decision to fund an “all-expenses-paid playtest day” where fans will be flown in to experience new MindsEye features—a decision the union views as insensitive given the significant layoffs the studio has conducted over the past year.

The action highlights escalating tensions in the game industry over worker treatment and corporate spending priorities. It underscores the growing unionization efforts across game development studios as workers seek better job security and working conditions.
