After nearly two decades, Minecraft is finally letting players take a rest on something other than a regular bed in its latest update

Minecraft is finally expanding its furniture options after nearly two decades. The upcoming Preview 26.40.30 update, rolling out today, introduces new cushion items and Straw Beds, allowing players to rest on seating options beyond the regular bed for the first time since the game’s launch.

The update brings multiple gameplay improvements alongside the new furniture, including bug fixes and additional in-game items. These additions address a long-standing gap in Minecraft’s interior decoration and functionality, likely to appeal to players focused on building and decorating homes within the sandbox.

The update arrives amid organizational changes at Minecraft’s parent company. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has taken direct control of the franchise as part of Microsoft’s broader restructuring, with an explicit goal to help Minecraft compete more effectively with rival Roblox. Despite these corporate changes, Mojang Studios continues actively developing the title, demonstrating sustained commitment to the game’s long-term development and player satisfaction.
