Star Trek: The Original Series receives new boxset for 60th anniversary
Star Trek: The Original Series is receiving a new 60th anniversary box set, releasing September 8, with three editions at varying price points. The standard DVD version costs $101.99, while a base Blu-ray edition is priced at $104.99. An Amazon Exclusive Edition is available for $139.99, offering premium collectibles.
All three versions contain the complete 79-episode series remastered in 1080p with enhanced visuals and original audio, accompanied by over nine hours of supplementary features including behind-the-scenes content and production materials. The Amazon Exclusive Edition distinguishes itself with a limited-edition 4-inch vinyl record featuring the original theme music, reproduction lobby cards from theatrical releases, and specially designed collector’s packaging.
The release represents a significant offering for both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the groundbreaking 1960s science fiction series with modernized presentation quality. However, reception has been mixed, with the box set currently carrying a 2.7-star rating, suggesting some consumer hesitation regarding pricing or content value. The varied edition structure allows collectors to choose their investment level while accessing the remastered classic series.
