Roughly 192 Subnautica 2 players have drowned every minute since launch

Subnautica 2 has recorded a grim milestone: approximately 192 players drown every minute across the game since its early access launch. According to developer Unknown Worlds’ official statistics, the underwater survival game has tallied 15,636,881 total player drownings across over 58 million combined hours of playtime in nearly two months.

Drowning from oxygen depletion represents the leading cause of player death in Subnautica 2, accounting for 42.6% of all recorded mortality. The studio shared this statistic on X as part of celebrating the game’s successful early access launch and documenting major achievements during the period.

The statistic underscores both the challenge inherent in Subnautica 2’s underwater exploration mechanics and the significant player engagement the title has generated since release. The sheer volume of deaths—hundreds of players per minute on average—reflects the game’s difficulty level and the critical importance of oxygen management to the survival gameplay loop.
