Supercell launches equity-free grants program for Africa-based game studios
Supercell has launched a Developer Grants program providing equity-free funding to support game studios based across Africa. The initiative offers grants ranging from $20,000 to $200,000 per studio, designed to foster creative talent and game development on the continent.
A key feature of the program is that participating studios retain complete ownership of their intellectual property and games. Supercell will not take any equity stake in funded studios or claim ownership of their projects—a significant distinction from traditional venture capital or publisher investment models.
The program is open to studios working across all gaming platforms, genres, and business models, providing broad accessibility to developers with diverse creative visions. However, eligibility is restricted to legally registered game development studios with their primary operations and majority of team members based in Africa. Individual developers are not eligible to apply; funding is exclusively available to established studio entities.
Previously funded studios from investors, publishers, grants, or accelerator programs remain eligible to apply, allowing experienced developers and teams to access additional support. This initiative represents Supercell’s commitment to expanding the gaming industry across Africa and supporting the next generation of African game developers.
