Black Ops 1 and 2 Port Players Think They Know Why Live Player Count Has Been Removed
Call of Duty’s Black Ops 1 and 2 ports for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have removed the live player count feature that was present in the original games. Players can no longer track real-time player numbers across online multiplayer modes.
The community has speculated that Activision deliberately removed this feature because the ports have low player populations, making the company “embarrassed” about the actual numbers. This aligns with broader criticism of the ports, which have been received poorly by fans.
Beyond the removal of player count data, the ports are also missing other classic features including Wager Matches and Theater Mode. The ports have drawn additional criticism for their technical limitations: they lack 120 FPS support, feature no field-of-view slider, and offer no meaningful graphical improvements over the originals. Combined with what the community views as excessive pricing for these legacy titles, the ports have become controversial among Call of Duty fans seeking faithful remasters of these beloved titles.
The removal of live player tracking represents another in a series of compromises in these ports that has disappointed the fanbase expecting more robust recreations of the original experiences.
