Enginefall developer Red Rover Interactive to cut workforce by 22 roles
Red Rover Interactive, the developer of debut title Enginefall, announced workforce reductions of 22 employees and postponed the game’s release to 2027. CEO Fred Richardson stated that completing the game to the desired quality standard requires an extended development timeline, and managing that schedule responsibly necessitates a smaller team structure.
The decision follows valuable feedback from Enginefall’s participation in Steam Next Fest earlier this year, where the game engaged over 200,000 players. That community response highlighted several areas requiring additional development attention: improvements to the new player onboarding experience, performance optimization, implementation of anti-cheat systems, and enhancements to overall game clarity and accessibility.
Richardson shared his perspective on LinkedIn, emphasizing that the studio’s commitment to quality takes precedence over maintaining the original release timeline. He noted that the Steam Next Fest engagement revealed “the work still ahead” and underscored the importance of taking appropriate time to address these issues properly.
This decision reflects a broader pattern in game development where studios use early access and community testing to inform their production timelines and resource allocation. The layoffs represent the studio’s calculated approach to sustainable development practices rather than crunch conditions.
