id Software insists in new statement that it still has “the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for”

Microsoft executed a significant round of layoffs across its Xbox division, shutting down four studios entirely: Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs. Several other studios, including Obsidian and id Software, survived the consolidation but experienced staffing reductions.

In response, id Software released a statement reassuring fans about the studio’s continued capacity to develop games. The studio emphasized that its current team size is approximately equivalent to what it had during the development of Doom 2016, a commercially and critically successful title. id Software stressed that they “still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for.”

The statement comes as id Software is reportedly working on a new Doom entry, indicating the studio intends to continue developing its flagship franchise despite the recent organizational changes. While the layoffs represent a challenging period for the studio and broader industry, id Software’s messaging suggests confidence in its remaining workforce’s ability to meet future development goals.
