Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Support Crossplay Between PS4 and PS5, Activision Confirms
Activision has confirmed that the recently ported Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 support crossplay between PS4 and PS5 platforms, following confusion among players regarding the feature’s availability.
Through an official statement via the Call of Duty Updates account on X (formerly Twitter), Activision detailed how the crossplay functionality operates. The publisher confirmed that PS4 and PS5 players are able to matchmake with one another in multiplayer matches, enabling seamless cross-generational play. Additionally, Activision clarified that Season Pass owners can matchmake with non-Season Pass owners, ensuring that purchasers of optional seasonal content are not isolated in their own matchmaking pools.
The announcement addressed player uncertainty that had circulated across social media platforms regarding whether the classic titles would support cross-generational play following their re-release on modern PlayStation hardware. The availability of crossplay between the two PlayStation generations represents an important feature for maintaining a unified player base across both console versions, which is particularly significant for the longevity of multiplayer communities in these older titles.
The clarification from Activision comes as the company continues to support the Call of Duty franchise across multiple generations of hardware, with a commitment to enabling players on different platforms to play together seamlessly.
