After The Odyssey, Matt Damon can’t wait to get stranded again: ‘I’ve seen those memes’

Matt Damon has acknowledged the internet’s ongoing joke about his tendency to play characters who get stranded, revealing he finds the memes amusing and that his friends and family regularly share them with him. In a press interview for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey, the actor reflected on his career pattern of stranded-protagonist roles.

Damon’s filmography includes several notable examples: The Martian (2015), where his character Mark Watney is marooned on Mars; Interstellar (2014), where he appears stranded in space; Saving Private Ryan (1998), which centers on a rescue mission; and now The Odyssey, which focuses on Odysseus’ perilous journey home. Responding to the pattern with humor, Damon asked, “How much money’s been spent trying to bring me back from places?”

The actor expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to accept these types of roles, stating, “I’m gonna ride this pony until it runs out.” With Christopher Nolan directing, The Odyssey is poised to be one of Damon’s most significant challenges, maintaining the stranded-protagonist theme that has become a defining characteristic of his career.
