UK Charts: Assassin’s Creed Plants Its Black Flag At Number One

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has stormed to the top of the UK boxed charts following its July 9th release. The remaster secured the number one position in its opening week, signaling strong consumer interest and a successful retail launch for the pirate-themed adventure.

Platform distribution reveals significant variation across the three major gaming platforms. PlayStation 5 dominated the retail landscape, capturing 84% of boxed sales—a commanding majority that underscores the console’s strong position in the UK market. Xbox platforms accounted for 15% of sales, while PC represented just 1% of retail copies sold.

These figures warrant important context, however. Xbox and PC have predominantly transitioned to digital distribution models with minimal physical retail presence, meaning these retail-only numbers don’t accurately represent total sales across all platforms. The 1% PC figure particularly likely understates that platform’s actual performance, as the vast majority of PC game sales occur through digital storefronts rather than physical retail channels.

The strong debut at number one underscores continued market appeal for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Black Flag has long been considered a standout entry in the series, and the remaster appears to have resonated strongly with UK consumers seeking the updated experience on PlayStation 5.
