Beast Of Reincarnation Has Sekiro Vibes, But It Won’t Beat You Down
Game Freak, the studio behind Nintendo’s Pokemon franchise, is launching Beast of Reincarnation in early August as a significant departure from the developer’s usual portfolio. This action-RPG combines tactical gameplay with Sekiro-inspired combat mechanics, marking the studio’s most ambitious genre exploration to date alongside several partner teams.
Unlike From Software’s famously punishing 2019 classic Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Beast of Reincarnation is designed for broader accessibility. The game features more forgiving windows for parries and counters, allowing challenging action gameplay without the extreme difficulty that defines traditional Souls-like experiences.
A distinctive aspect of Beast of Reincarnation centers on a one-person, one-dog dynamic, featuring a prominent wolflike canine companion. This design choice stands out in a gaming landscape increasingly saturated with cat-focused content and narratives.
Early hands-on impressions have been notably positive. Journalists who played through the opening hours and opening boss encounter report the game could become another major franchise for Game Freak. Reviewers describe the experience as “confusing, challenging, and such a blast,” suggesting the game successfully balances mechanical complexity with engaging gameplay.
While Game Freak remains synonymous with Pokemon—with releases like Pokemon Winds and Waves planned for 2027—the studio has demonstrated creative range through side projects like Pocket Card Jockey and Tembo the Badass Elephant. Beast of Reincarnation represents their most significant genre departure yet.
