Halo Studios reportedly cancels Halo multiplayer project Ekur, which had customisable Spartans and Elites and large player battles

Halo Studios has canceled Project Ekur, a forthcoming Halo multiplayer game, according to reports first shared by community figure Rebs Gaming on YouTube. The cancellation was subsequently confirmed by Jez Corden, a journalist with close ties to Microsoft and Xbox leadership, who described the information as “100 percent true.”

Project Ekur was designed as the next major multiplayer entry in the Halo franchise, featuring significant gameplay innovations including customizable Spartan and Elite characters alongside large-scale player battles. The ambitious multiplayer project represented a major investment in the Halo franchise’s live-service future.

The cancellation appears to be part of broader organizational restructuring at Xbox, following significant cost-cutting measures announced the previous week. The decision reflects difficult choices being made across Xbox’s development and publishing operations as the company realigns its portfolio.

The news arrives amid ongoing development of other Halo projects, including reported remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 that have entered production following the critical success of the original Halo’s remake. The franchise remains a cornerstone property for Xbox, though recent announcements indicate significant changes to its development pipeline.
