Force any site into dark mode with Microsoft Edge — no extension required

Microsoft is testing a new feature called “Web Remix” in Edge Canary that gives users greater control over how websites appear and function. The tool enables users to force any webpage into dark mode with just a few clicks, addressing a common request from users who prefer darker interfaces for reduced eye strain and improved readability.

Beyond dark mode, Web Remix provides several additional customization and utility features. Users can adjust webpage appearance by modifying text colors, font sizes, and overall color schemes to suit their preferences. The feature also includes practical tools for content consumption and finance: it can automatically summarize lengthy articles, simplify complex text for easier reading, and convert prices displayed on webpages into local currency—a useful feature for international users or those shopping across different regional markets.

The feature represents Microsoft’s effort to enhance user personalization in Edge, moving beyond traditional browser settings to offer real-time webpage modification. Web Remix functionality is currently available only in Edge Canary, Microsoft’s experimental browser channel where new features are tested before broader release. This means the tool is not yet available in the stable version of Microsoft Edge, though promising testing results could lead to wider availability.

The combination of accessibility features (dark mode, simplified text), customization options (colors and fonts), and practical utilities (currency conversion, summarization) suggests Microsoft is positioning Web Remix as a comprehensive webpage personalization suite. It’s a notable feature that addresses common user frustrations without requiring browser extensions, potentially simplifying the user experience for those who previously relied on third-party dark mode tools.
