New DOOM Game is in Development
A new DOOM game is currently in early development at id Software, according to reporting from Tom Warren of The Verge. Despite recent significant layoffs that saw 136 employees let go from the studio, the company remains committed to developing the new title rather than being converted into a support studio focused on maintaining existing projects.
The announcement provides reassurance to the franchise’s dedicated fanbase, which has enjoyed considerable success with the recent reboot trilogy beginning with DOOM (2016) and continuing through subsequent releases. The lengthy gap between DOOM 3 and the 2016 reboot had raised concerns about the franchise’s future, but the modern era of releases has proven both critically and commercially successful.
The layoffs at id Software were part of broader restructuring across Xbox Game Studios. However, the studio’s commitment to developing a new DOOM game demonstrates that key franchises remain a priority despite industry-wide workforce reductions and consolidation pressures. While still in early stages, the confirmation of a new DOOM project confirms the franchise will continue to receive development support.
