Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot in the Works at Paramount

Paramount has announced a new A Nightmare on Elm Street film based on Wes Craven’s original screenplay. The project represents the first film from Paramount Primal, a newly established genre label within the studio focused on horror and genre cinema.

The label is helmed by producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, co-founders of production company BoulderLight Pictures. The pair have previously produced acclaimed films including Barbarian, Weapons, Companion, and Friendship, and will serve as executive producers on the new Nightmare on Elm Street project.

Paramount secured theatrical rights to adapt the original screenplay from the Wes Craven estate. The film will be produced by Lifshitz, Margules, Iya Labunka, Marc Toberoff, and Jonathan Craven, who is Wes Craven’s son. Labunka, formerly married to Craven, brings extensive film industry production experience to the project.

Details regarding the film’s creative direction remain under wraps. As of the announcement, no writer or director has been publicly attached. The specific approach Paramount Primal will take with this reboot of the classic horror franchise is unclear, though the involvement of the Craven family and experienced genre producers suggests the studio intends a thoughtful vision for the original material.
