Palworld barges Dota 2 aside as PC player counts skyrocket following the game’s 1.0 release

Palworld has launched version 1.0 on PC and consoles, marking its official release from early access. The debut coincided with a massive surge in concurrent players, with the game reaching a peak of 855,525 concurrent players on Steam—its second-highest player count ever, surpassed only by its initial early access launch in January 2024. Currently, Palworld maintains 489,007 concurrent players, placing it second on Steam’s most-played list behind only Counter-Strike 2.

While the current figures fall short of the game’s early 2024 early access peak of 2.1 million concurrent players, the 1.0 release still represents a significant achievement for Pocketpair’s Pokémon-like survival-crafting title. The full release included extensive updates, with patch notes spanning 27 pages, alongside developer commitment to maintaining the original $29.99 price point rather than increasing it—a gesture intended to thank the player community for their support during early access.

The strong player turnout demonstrates continued interest in Palworld despite the gap between its January 2024 early access launch and the 1.0 milestone. The game’s ability to recapture substantial player engagement during its official release illustrates the potential for early access titles to maintain momentum through to full launch with continued development and community engagement.
