BOE’s new $9 billion OLED monitor plant, capable of churning out 10 million panels this year alone, is now up and running—with some big names already on board
BOE, a major Chinese display manufacturer, has begun mass production at its new OLED panel manufacturing facility in Chengdu. The state-of-the-art plant cost approximately $9.3 billion and is the first 8.6-generation OLED panel production facility in China, representing a significant expansion of OLED monitor availability.
The facility is capable of producing 10 million OLED panels annually, with production volumes expected to increase substantially in subsequent years. Constructed in just over two years, the plant reflects BOE’s commitment to scaling OLED display production in response to growing demand for high-quality OLED displays in monitors, laptops, and consumer electronics.
At the opening ceremony, representatives from major technology companies attended, including PC manufacturers Lenovo and Asus, peripheral maker MSI, smartphone brands Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and Xiaomi, along with ZTE, Transsion, and Nothing. Their presence signals strong industry interest in BOE’s production capacity.
This facility represents a significant development in the global OLED display market, potentially accelerating OLED technology adoption beyond premium products into mainstream devices. The increased production capacity could drive more competitive pricing and broader availability of OLED monitors and screens across diverse product categories.
