What’s Next For Disney Games? D23 Is About To Tell Us
The biannual Disney D23 Expo returns to the calendar in August 2026, bringing together major announcements from across Disney’s entertainment divisions. Running from August 14-16, the event will feature an expanded focus on video games alongside traditional showcases for films, television, music, and live stage productions. Disney has teased an “exclusive preview” of gaming content scheduled for the expo’s opening day as part of the broader Disney Entertainment Showcase.
The company has already begun detailing specific gaming announcements scheduled for D23, including a panel dedicated to celebrating the 25th anniversary milestone of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. The Kingdom Hearts series, a joint venture between Disney and Square Enix that launched in 2002, has become one of the most significant crossover properties in gaming.
The D23 announcement comes on the heels of Kingdom Hearts 4’s surprise reveal during June 2026’s Nintendo Direct presentation, marking the series’ return to Nintendo platforms and generating significant excitement among fans. With the 25th anniversary panel scheduled for D23, the event appears positioned to offer expanded details about Kingdom Hearts 4 and potentially other upcoming gaming projects from Disney’s portfolio.
