Madden Ditches Its Microtransaction Mode To Come To Apple Arcade

Madden NFL 27 is coming to Apple Arcade in August, marking another major AAA sports franchise to join the subscription gaming service. The Apple Arcade version will deliver the same core Madden experience available on consoles, supporting both touchscreen and external controller input.

The Apple Arcade edition will feature all 32 NFL teams, dynamically updated weekly ratings to reflect real-world performance, and multiple game modes including Quick Play and Franchise modes. However, a significant distinction from console and PC versions is the absence of the typical Ultimate Team mode with its aggressive microtransaction model—Apple Arcade’s subscription-based approach eliminates the need for pay-to-win mechanics that have become increasingly prominent in the franchise.

This move represents a strategic partnership between Apple and EA Sports to bring premium sports gaming to the growing Apple Arcade ecosystem. Apple Arcade has successfully attracted major titles in recent years, including NBA 2K26 and Disney Dreamlight Valley, positioning itself as a viable alternative to traditional game purchase models. The inclusion of Madden NFL 27 demonstrates publisher confidence in subscription gaming and Apple’s ability to support demanding AAA titles on its hardware.
