Why Are There So Many Benedict Cumberbatch Cards In Magic: The Gathering?
Wizards of the Coast has announced details for Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming Star Trek Universes Beyond set, launching with prerelease events on November 13, 2026. The set spans all 60 years of the Star Trek franchise, from the original 1960s series through modern shows including Discovery and Lower Decks, as well as the J.J. Abrams films.
The Star Trek set introduces four new Commander decks themed around iconic Star Trek conflicts. The “We Are the Borg” deck, led by the Borg Queen, features a new Assimilate mechanic that places creatures onto the battlefield under the player’s control as Borg artifact creatures with +1/+1 counters. Other Commander decks are helmed by legendary characters including Worf, Spock, and Picard.
In a historic first for Magic: The Gathering, the set will include premium Headliner cards featuring authentic autographs from Star Trek actors. Seven autographed variants have been announced, with confirmed signatures from William Shatner (as Captain James T. Kirk) and Kate Mulgrew (as Captain Kathryn Janeway). Only 200 copies of each autographed card will be produced, making them exclusive collectibles available only in Collector Booster packs.
Additionally, the set features reprinted cards reskinned as Star Trek characters, including Sheoldred, The Apocalypse reimagined as Khan from Star Trek Into Darkness. Premium products include Collector Booster packs, Collector’s Edition Commander decks, and Scene Boxes depicting moments from The Next Generation and the Abrams films.
