The OLED Xbox Ally X20 is so good, Asus will sell it solo
Asus has confirmed it will sell the OLED Ally X20 handheld gaming device as a standalone product, reversing its original plan to only offer it bundled with expensive AR glasses. Asus spokesperson Anthony Spence disclosed to The Verge that the company is “actively discussing the release schedule” for the standalone version.
The announcement represents a significant shift in strategy for the OLED upgrade to Asus’s handheld gaming device. The original bundling requirement with AR glasses would have substantially increased the entry cost for consumers interested solely in the portable gaming device. The decision to offer a standalone version addresses consumer demand for modular purchasing options and broader accessibility.
The handheld has impressed reviewers, with initial skepticism stemming from uncertainty about whether they would be able to experience the device before committing to the expensive bundle. Now that standalone availability has been confirmed, the device should reach a wider audience among portable gaming enthusiasts.
The move underscores growing market recognition for premium portable gaming devices. By decoupling the OLED Ally from AR glasses, Asus can capitalize on existing demand without requiring consumers to purchase additional accessories they may not want.
