Witcher 3 Director Says Next-Gen Console Delay Would Not Be Such A Bad Thing

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3 and head of developer Rebel Wolves, has commented positively on the potential delays to next-generation consoles including PlayStation 6 and next-gen Xbox systems due to ongoing component shortages and memory crises.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Tomaszkiewicz stated that his studio would not be upset by such delays, noting that additional time would benefit developers rather than hinder them. “To be honest, it’s even better for us,” he explained, describing how new platform launches create significant challenges for development teams.

The director elaborated that each console generation requires developers to invest considerable time learning new hardware capabilities, understanding technical limitations, and determining what is achievable on the platform. Beyond initial development, teams must also create and maintain separate builds for each platform, adding ongoing management overhead.

Tomaszkiewicz is currently leading development on Rebel Wolves’ vampire-focused title The Blood of Dawnwalker, scheduled to launch in September across console and PC platforms. His comments suggest the studio is focused on optimizing the game for current-generation systems rather than rushing to support new hardware. His perspective reflects a broader industry conversation about balancing technological advancement with practical development constraints, where extended windows on established platforms allow teams to mature their tools and optimization strategies.
