Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced enjoys the best launch of any AC game on Steam, making avast sum of money there

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has achieved exceptional commercial success on Steam, marking the strongest launch of any Assassin’s Creed title on the platform. According to market data from Alinea Analytics, the game sold 701,000 copies on Steam, generating $35 million in revenue as of July 13th. This performance notably more than doubled the launch day sales of the previous Assassin’s Creed entry on the same platform.

The game’s overall launch has been impressive, with 2 million copies sold across all platforms on its first day and the highest concurrent player count in the franchise’s history. The success comes despite Ubisoft’s inclusion of monetization mechanics typical of modern AAA releases. A day-one DLC map pack priced at $5 generated approximately $1 million in Steam revenue—representing less than 3% of the platform’s initial sales. This DLC proved controversial among players, as it reveals all collectible locations in-game, undermining exploration-based gameplay. However, the controversy had limited impact on reception, with the game maintaining an 80% “very positive” review score on Steam.

Notably, despite the game’s strong commercial performance, Ubisoft subsequently announced layoffs affecting many developers involved in Black Flag Resynced’s creation, a decision that puzzled observers given the title’s clear financial success.
