Call of Duty: Black Ops Modder Highlights Major Exploits With New Port, Activision Is Investigating

Activision has launched ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 on PlayStation 4 and PS5, bringing classic entries in the franchise to current-generation PlayStation hardware. While players were enthusiastic about accessing these older titles on modern consoles, the ports have been plagued by security issues almost immediately after release.

Within days of launch, modders and hackers began exploiting vulnerabilities in the Black Ops 1 port, compromising multiplayer lobbies and disrupting gameplay for legitimate players. The widespread exploitation prompted Activision to announce an investigation into the mods and hacking issues affecting both PS4 and PS5 versions.

The incident is particularly notable given that the ports themselves lack significant technical improvements or visual upgrades over their original versions, having drawn criticism from technical experts for their minimal effort. The rapid emergence of security exploits highlights ongoing challenges in securing legacy game ports, especially when anti-cheat and security infrastructure may not be equipped to address modern exploitation techniques. As Activision works to resolve the issues, the company has not yet detailed what measures it will implement to restore the integrity of the online experience.
