Danny McBride to Direct New G.I. Joe Movie as Bradley Cooper Rumored for Role
Paramount Pictures has tapped Danny McBride to direct an upcoming G.I. Joe film, marking his feature film directorial debut. The acclaimed actor, writer, and comedian—known for films like Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder—drew from his own screenplay for the project, following five years since the franchise’s last theatrical release in 2021.
McBride’s involvement comes after demonstrating his production capabilities through HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, which he created, executive produced, and directed multiple episodes of. For the G.I. Joe project, his screenplay has been selected over an earlier draft penned by Max Landis, which was ultimately scrapped during development.
Actor Bradley Cooper is reportedly being considered for a role in the film, though official casting has not been confirmed. The project represents Paramount’s latest effort to revitalize the G.I. Joe franchise under fresh creative leadership.
