Fnatic Sign Former Invictus Gaming Toplaner Soboro For the LEC

Fnatic have announced the signing of Korean toplaner Lim ‘Soboro’ Seong-min as their new League Championship Series player. Soboro joins from Invictus Gaming, where he served as a substitute for legendary toplaner Kang ‘TheShy’ Seung-lok during the 2024 season. The move comes after TheShy announced his return to competitive play for LPL Split 3, resulting in Soboro’s departure from the Chinese organization.

This represents Soboro’s first season in professional competition following his time as an understudy to one of the game’s most accomplished players. Notably, TheShy was a key member of Invictus Gaming’s 2018 League of Legends World Championship-winning team, the same squad that defeated Fnatic in the finals.

Fnatic’s acquisition of Soboro addresses significant toplane concerns following a disappointing 2024 season. The European organization has struggled considerably, failing to secure a single victory during the LEC Versus Playoffs and missing qualification for the Spring Playoffs entirely. The team’s poor performance is reflected in betting odds, with Polymarket currently assigning them only a 4% probability of winning the LEC Summer Split.

The level of Fnatic’s organizational struggles became apparent when eventual LEC champions G2 declined to scrim against them throughout the entirety of Spring. This signing signals Fnatic’s attempt to rebuild their roster and competitive standing in the league. Whether Soboro’s arrival can reverse the team’s fortunes remains to be seen, but the organization appears committed to making changes following their disappointing results.
