Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Has Disappeared From Game Pass Without Explanation

Microsoft has quietly removed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 from its upcoming Xbox Game Pass lineup, just a week before the game was set to arrive on the service on July 21, 2026. The removal was confirmed through an editor’s note added to Xbox Wire on July 13, which simply stated: “We’ve removed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 from the list of titles coming soon to Game Pass,” without providing any explanation.

The unexpected pullback is particularly notable because Microsoft owns both the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise and the game itself through its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, giving it complete control over the title’s distribution. This makes the mysterious removal even more conspicuous—other Tony Hawk titles like Pro Skater 3+4 remain on Game Pass.

The leading theory among observers points to licensing complications. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, released nearly six years ago, features an extensive soundtrack of 2000s and 90s music, along with partnerships with real-world skateboarding brands. These licenses have expiration dates, and with the game now approaching its sixth anniversary, multiple licensing agreements may have lapsed or become prohibitively expensive to maintain. Rather than lose rights to critical content, Microsoft may have opted to remove the game rather than face potential delisting.

Despite owning the franchise outright, Microsoft has not publicly commented on the decision, leaving fans and industry observers to speculate about the true cause of the removal.
