Battlefield 6 Is Getting A Feature Not Seen In 21 Years And A Top Gun Crossover

Battlefield 6 is receiving a major update (version 1.4.1.0) scheduled for July 21, introducing Season 4: Pacific Front alongside significant new gameplay systems and content. The update brings back a feature absent from the franchise for over two decades: two-seater, fixed-wing aircraft, which last appeared in Battlefield 2 (2005). This addition marks a substantial return to the naval and aerial gameplay that characterized earlier entries in the series.

The patch introduces a comprehensive naval warfare system, adding depth to multiplayer engagements. Two new maps are launching with the update: Tsuru Reef, an original map designed around the Pacific theater, and a revamped version of Wake Island, a fan-favorite location making its return to the game. Several new weapons will also be added, expanding player loadout options.

Alongside gameplay additions, the update includes various balance adjustments and refinements to core systems, including modifications to player movement mechanics and updates to REDSEC ranked competitive mode. Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios are also teasing a Top Gun crossover, confirmed through music and imagery in the Season 4 announcement trailer, likely bringing licensed cosmetics or themed content to the game.

This represents one of the most substantial updates in Battlefield 6’s relatively short history, significantly expanding the game’s feature set and content library.
