Fortnite is getting a bunch of AI-powered ‘personas’
Epic Games is rolling out AI-powered character personas to Fortnite creators, launching on July 30th. The company has developed 36 pre-built characters featuring consistent AI-generated voices and distinct personalities that creators can integrate as NPCs into their custom Fortnite experiences.
The roster includes iconic Fortnite characters such as Agent Jonesy, Peely the banana, Fishstick, and Cuddle Team Leader. Each character comes with defined vocal characteristics and personality traits, allowing creators to populate their game modes and experiences with recognizable, interactive NPCs without having to develop voices from scratch.
This move builds on Epic’s previous experimental work with AI characters, including the Darth Vader NPC from last year that utilized James Earl Jones’ voice. The AI personas initiative represents Epic’s broader strategy to provide creators with more sophisticated tools for building content within Fortnite’s Creative mode and other creator-focused features.
The availability of these pre-built AI characters is expected to lower the barrier for entry for creators looking to add voiced NPCs to their experiences, potentially leading to more diverse and interactive community-created content within the Fortnite ecosystem.
