GTA 6 Hacker Moved to Prison for Retrial Two Years After Indefinite Sentence to Secure Hospital
Arion Kurtaj, a member of the notorious Lapsus$ hacking group, has been released from a secure hospital in the UK and moved to a regular prison facility as he awaits a retrial scheduled for November 2026. Kurtaj, who was 18 at the time, was responsible for the massive Grand Theft Auto 6 leak in September 2022, when he and his group uploaded 90 videos totaling approximately 50 minutes of gameplay to GTAForums. The leaked footage depicted early development builds of the game, including shooting, driving, police chases, and story missions, all of which were intended to remain confidential until official release.
Following his conviction in December 2023, Kurtaj was initially sentenced to indefinite imprisonment at a secure hospital after a psychiatric evaluation determined he had “acute autism” and was deemed unfit to stand trial at that time. After over two years at the facility, he has been deemed medically fit to face the justice system again. His retrial is scheduled to take place in November 2026, the same month as the official release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Kurtaj’s case is part of the broader Lapsus$ investigation, which targeted major corporations including Nvidia, Uber, and BT. The GTA 6 leak remains one of the most significant security breaches in gaming history, releasing unprecedented amounts of unreleased game footage more than a year before any official promotional material was made public.
