Roblox Will Let Anyone Use AI to Turn Text Prompts Into a Basic Game on Their Phone

Roblox has introduced Build, a new AI-powered creation tool that enables anyone to generate basic games using text prompts directly within the Roblox mobile app. Users can input simple prompts—such as “Let’s make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles”—and the AI will generate a starting point that creators can then iterate on, playtest, and refine before publishing to the Roblox platform or sharing with friends. The base version of Build will be available free to all creators, with premium options available for power users seeking additional functionality.

The Build tool is part of a broader AI initiative from Roblox. Alongside the mobile-first creation feature, the company is releasing an expanded suite of AI-powered tools for professional creators in Studio, set to begin testing on July 28. These tools include an AI foundation model for generating 3D game assets, an AI assistant chatbot to help developers during creation, and experimental AI world models similar to Google’s Project Genie.

The announcement reflects the gaming industry’s growing adoption of generative AI tools for game development, with major players including Ubisoft and Sony implementing similar technologies. However, the move has raised concerns about potential quality control on the Roblox platform, which hosts millions of user-generated games. Critics worry that enabling mass AI-generated game creation could flood the platform with low-quality content, though Roblox has stated it will implement measures to address these concerns.
