Battlefield 6 is getting an evolved Carrier Assault mode in Season 4, and the Top Gun collab brings more than cosmetics
Battlefield 6 is launching its largest seasonal update to date with Season 4, bringing a major Top Gun: Maverick crossover and the return of naval combat. The update rolls out in two phases: the first on July 21 introduces naval warfare with a massive new map called Tsuru Reef, featuring new naval vehicles and weapons. The second phase on August 18 brings the Top Gun collaboration alongside the Carrier Assault mode—a 20-year-old mode originally from Battlefield 2142—revived for the crossover.
The collaboration between EA and Paramount Games Studio extends beyond cosmetics. Players will access two-seater jets styled after the film: the F-74A Seacat (based on the F-14 Tomcat) and the F/A-81F Super Spectre (F/A-18 Super Hornet), marking the game’s first two-seater aircraft. Top Gun characters join the roster with original voice acting, including Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw performed by Miles Teller. The iconic Wake Island map receives a modern update featuring aircraft carrier spawn points and beach assault objectives, serving as the centerpiece for Carrier Assault gameplay.
Carrier Assault challenges teams to attack or defend aircraft carriers, emphasizing large-scale objective-driven gameplay with vehicles and team coordination. This substantial seasonal content represents a significant expansion of Battlefield 6’s live-service model through both gameplay innovation and licensed franchise integration.
