On a random Friday, Bethesda announce Fallout 5, built on new Creation Engine 3, plus Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters, new Fallout title from Obsidian Entertainment

Bethesda has announced a major expansion of the Fallout franchise following Xbox’s recent mass layoffs. In a significant studio update, the company confirmed that Fallout 5 is now in pre-production, serving as the franchise’s “long-range destination.” The game will be built on Creation Engine 3, the same engine powering Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.

Beyond the mainline sequel, Bethesda is pursuing multiple Fallout projects simultaneously. Remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are officially in active development, though no release dates have been announced. Additionally, Obsidian Entertainment is developing a new standalone Fallout game, reuniting the teams behind 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. Director Todd Howard noted that “the timing is right” for this collaboration.

Fallout 76 will receive a substantial expansion in 2027 featuring Raven Rock, a prequel to Fallout 3. The expansion marks Bethesda’s continued support for the live-service title, which has surpassed 35 million sales.

Notably, The Elder Scrolls 6 remains Bethesda’s primary development focus, and Fallout 5 won’t release until after that flagship project is complete. The announcement represents a strategic shift toward deepening engagement with established franchises and expanding user-generated content opportunities. The roadmap was shared amid broader Xbox restructuring and demonstrates Bethesda’s commitment to delivering multiple entries across beloved properties over the coming years.
