Diablo 4 Season 14’s Worst Mythic Change Is No More: “Not Every Idea Lands”

Blizzard has responded to widespread player criticism of Diablo 4’s Season 14 (Season of Death Awakening) with an emergency patch that reverses its most controversial changes. The season launched with restrictive modifications to the game’s most powerful items—Mythic Uniques—that prompted immediate developer action.

The primary complaint centered on a new mechanic limiting players to equipping only one crafted-Mythic item at a time. In a patch released July 16 for PC and July 17 for console platforms, Blizzard removed this restriction entirely, restoring the ability to equip multiple crafted-Mythic items. The patch also increases drop rates for both standard Mythic and Iconic Mythic items from the season’s new Lair Boss, addressing loot availability concerns.

A second controversial addition—the Mythic Upgrade function of the Horadric Cube—will receive changes, though Blizzard has deferred these adjustments to the following season. Currently, the upgrade function fails to meaningfully improve items as intended.

Blizzard acknowledged the misstep with the statement “Not every idea lands exactly as intended.” The rapid reversal essentially undoes the central design pillar of the season, demonstrating the developer’s commitment to player satisfaction over maintaining originally envisioned seasonal mechanics. The swift response highlights how live-service games respond to community feedback, though the quick abandonment of core seasonal features raises questions about initial design direction and testing processes.
