Colman Domingo and Robert O’Hara in Talks to Write Live-Action Princess and the Frog Tiana Spinoff Movie
Actor Colman Domingo is in talks with playwright and director Robert O’Hara to co-write a live-action film centered on Tiana, the protagonist from Disney’s animated Princess and the Frog. The project marks another entry in Disney’s continued expansion into live-action adaptations of its animated properties.
However, recent live-action Disney adaptations have underperformed significantly. The 2026 live-action Moana earned approximately $95 million globally in its opening weekend, while the 2025 live-action Snow White remake opened to $87.3 million globally—both considered disappointing results for high-budget studio productions. Both films also received middling critical reviews.
Despite these lackluster box office returns and mixed reception, Disney continues to accelerate its live-action remake pipeline. The Tiana project demonstrates the studio’s commitment to the strategy even as the trend has proven notably unprofitable, suggesting Disney remains confident in the long-term viability of live-action adaptations of its classic animated catalog.
