Chinese Version of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile Shutting Down in September, Global Launch Canceled

Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, the mobile adaptation of the popular MMORPG developed by LightSpeed Studios, will shut down permanently on September 30, 2026. The Chinese version of the game, which launched in 2025, will close after just over a year of service.

In an announcement posted on July 17, the development team cited adjustments in business operations and shifts in the market environment as reasons for the termination. Square Enix and Tencent jointly decided to end their licensing agreement following an “amicable negotiation,” leading to the game’s closure. Additionally, all plans for a global release of Final Fantasy 14 Mobile have been cancelled entirely.

The shutdown marks another unsuccessful attempt to bring the Final Fantasy 14 franchise to mobile platforms. The Chinese market, despite its gaming population, proved unable to sustain the mobile adaptation as a viable product. Players currently engaged with the title will lose access when service terminates.
