Gamecity Hamburg announces second round of prototype funding

Gamecity Hamburg has opened applications for its second round of prototype funding, offering studios and startups the opportunity to secure non-repayable grants up to €80,000 each. The funding window runs from September 4 to 24, 2026, with a total of €180,000 available across all grants.

The initiative targets small and medium-sized studios, independent founders, and early-stage startups developing game prototypes that demonstrate “compelling market potential.” The non-repayable nature of the grants makes this program particularly attractive for early-stage developers looking to advance their projects without taking on debt.

The funding round features an expanded awarding committee that now includes two new members: Nora Klutzny, a producer at Off the Beaten Track, and Paul Taaks, co-founder and creative director of Overhype Studios. These additions bring fresh perspectives from both established indie developers and emerging creative talent. The committee continues to be led by Dennis Schoubye in his role as Head of Gamecity Hamburg, alongside Nina Müller and other panel members.

This second funding round demonstrates Gamecity Hamburg’s commitment to supporting innovation in game development and fostering the growth of the regional gaming ecosystem. The program appears designed to help talented developers move their prototype stages closer to production-ready status, potentially paving the way for larger funding rounds or publishing partnerships down the line.
