Magic The Gathering – Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Worldbuilding Trailer

At MagicCon: Amsterdam, Wizards of the Coast unveiled Magic: The Gathering’s 2027 roadmap, featuring three major in-universe expansions and three Universes Beyond sets. The announcement represents a milestone year with the introduction of the franchise’s first underwater plane and the return of a classic world.

Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, releasing February 5, 2027, debuts Magic’s inaugural aquatic plane featuring merfolk, seals, and underwater deities. The set centers on conflict between two warring kingdoms as heroes fight to save their home from the encroaching seas. This expansion launches a brand-new multi-year story arc.

Kamigawa: Titanbreach releases June 4, 2027, creating a clash between two iconic Magic planes. The set depicts Ikoria’s catastrophic invasion of Kamigawa through an Omenpath, forcing the people of Kamigawa to unite against invading monsters threatening their world.

Zhalfir releases October 1, 2027, marking the plane’s return to the Multiverse as its own world after being phased out. The set celebrates the plane’s afrofantasy aesthetic with innovative visual design and mind-bending mechanics. Planeswalker Teferi Akosa returns, introducing new players to Magic’s master of chronomancy.

Wizards also announced three Universes Beyond sets for 2027, a decrease from 2026’s four, though specific details remain undisclosed. Before these releases, the world-altering set Reality Fracture will complete the 2026 slate, featuring Planeswalker Jace Belren reshaping the game’s multiverse.
