Mortal Kombat II Gets HBO Max Streaming Release Date
Warner Bros. announced that Mortal Kombat II will premiere on HBO Max on Friday, July 24, 2026, marking the next phase of the film’s “full life cycle”—a milestone that director Simon McQuoid suggests will help determine whether Mortal Kombat 3 moves forward.
The live-action sequel, directed by McQuoid, earned $129 million globally during its theatrical run, which began May 8. The film accumulated $79.7 million domestically and $49.7 million internationally. Warner Bros. released it digitally on June 9, with physical media editions (4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD) arriving July 28.
Beyond the standard HBO Max release, the streamer will offer an ASL version featuring “Visual Vernacular,” a specialized sign language form combining ASL, mime, facial expressions, and body movements designed for visually storytelling. The film will also premiere on HBO linear television on Saturday, July 25, at 8pm ET.
Mortal Kombat II serves as a direct sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, bringing the beloved fighting game franchise—originally created by Ed Boon and John Tobias and now owned by Warner Bros. Games—to audiences in live-action form. The property has a longstanding history of film adaptations, including Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1995 live-action film.
