CliffyB is making a new game, but it won’t have PvP
Game designer Cliff Bleszinski, known as CliffyB online, is returning to game development after several years away from the industry. In an 80 Level interview, he revealed that his new project will prioritize single-player experience, explicitly ruling out competitive multiplayer—a departure from his earlier work on iconic franchises like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament at Epic Games and LawBreakers at Boss Key Productions.
Bleszinski offered candid reflections on the commercial and creative failures of Boss Key Productions, attributing the studio’s collapse to multiple compounding factors: his own ego and personal struggles with alcoholism, a disadvantageous publishing agreement with Nexon, and the strategic decision not to release LawBreakers on Xbox, a choice he now recognizes as a critical mistake that severely limited the game’s audience.
Marking a significant personal milestone, Bleszinski is four months sober and describes his renewed drive to create as emerging from this recovery. He emphasized his desire to return to what he considers his core creative strength: developing memorable characters and immersive worlds rather than pursuing competitive multiplayer experiences.
