Game of Thrones: War for Westeros RTS delayed to 2027 to “ensure the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for”

PlaySide Studios has announced a delay for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, its real-time strategy game set in the Game of Thrones universe. Originally scheduled to release in 2026, the game will now launch in early 2027.

The developer revealed the delay through a Steam blog post, stating that the extra time “gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for.” PlaySide emphasized its commitment to the project despite the pushback, noting it remains “unwavering in its mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros.”

The game was first announced during Summer Game Fest 2025 but had received limited attention until the delay announcement last week. War for Westeros is an RTS title that will allow players to lead Houses in the fictional continent of Westeros. The game targets PC players via Steam.

While a delay can disappoint fans eager to play, PlaySide’s focus on quality suggests the development team wants to ensure the game meets expectations for both RTS enthusiasts and Game of Thrones fans alike. The 2027 launch window provides the studio additional development and testing time to refine gameplay mechanics, graphics, and other features.
