DC Announces New Tag Fighting Game And Injustice Fans Are Confused

DC announced DCKO, a new free-to-play 2v2 tag fighting game featuring DC Comics characters, on July 20, 2026. The announcement surprised and disappointed fans hoping for Injustice 3, NetherRealm’s console fighting game series. Instead, DC is bringing a mobile experience to iOS and Android in 2027.

DCKO is developed by Drop Fake, an independent studio founded by ex-Kabam developers who previously worked on Marvel Contest of Champions. The game combines fighting mechanics with RPG and collectible elements, allowing players to level up characters, unlock new stats, and enhance abilities through in-game currency purchases.

Drop Fake’s creative director Gene Campbell emphasized the studio’s goal to advance mobile fighting games, stating that DCKO represents “a significant leap forward for the fighting game genre on mobile” with both accessible gameplay and a high competitive skill ceiling. The developer claims to deliver real-time PvP capabilities as a first for mobile fighting games, drawing inspiration from arcade fighting traditions.

The game will feature both PvE and PvP modes, with live multiplayer as a core component. However, the fighting game community’s response has been largely negative, with fans expressing frustration that DC chose to develop a mobile free-to-play title rather than continuing the traditional console-based Injustice franchise.
