The Next Game Of Thrones Game Has Been Delayed
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, an upcoming real-time strategy game developed by PlaySide, has been delayed to early 2027. Originally scheduled for release in 2026, the delay was announced to ensure the game meets quality standards expected by both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans.
Announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, War for Westeros brings real-time strategy gameplay to Westeros, the fictional setting of HBO’s Game of Thrones television series. The game promises large-scale battles, diplomatic alliance-forging between the great houses of Westeros, and deeply asymmetric strategies featuring signature heroes, armies, and mechanics drawn from the series’ brutal legacy.
PlaySide stated in their development update that while progress has been solid, additional time is necessary to achieve quality goals. “We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans,” the developer said. The studio acknowledged the extended wait and thanked players for their continued support, noting that the additional development time will help ensure the game reaches the quality bar the team is targeting.
