Court orders Midgar Studio to liquidate after failing to secure a buyer

Midgar Studio, the 18-year-old French video game developer behind Edge of Eternity and Edge of Memories, has been ordered by court to liquidate after failing to secure a buyer.

The closure was announced by studio founder Jérémy Zeler-Maury, who now serves as CTO of parent company Nacon, on LinkedIn. Nacon had actively sought an acquirer in recent weeks, but negotiations could not be completed within the court-mandated timeframe required for the liquidation process.

Zeler-Maury reflected on the studio’s 18-year history, describing it as beginning with “a slightly crazy idea” before evolving into years of “work, creation, challenges, encounters and memories.” He expressed disappointment at being unable to preserve the company and its team, having hoped to announce a successful acquisition.

The shutdown will result in dozens of job losses. The closure represents another casualty in an industry experiencing significant consolidation, with multiple studios shutting down or undergoing major staff reductions in recent years. Midgar’s liquidation marks the end of a notable independent developer that had established itself through releases on multiple platforms.
